Aiming for the clouds!

16 Jan

If you’ve read my posts before you’ll know I spend most of my spare time doing the above literally. Sometimes (like this time of year) it’s all too easy, as the cloud comes down to meet us! Other times it takes more effort – and gives greater satisfaction, to know you have wrestled with gravity and the invisible currents of rising air to merrily circle far above the streets and houses below!

This time though, I am aiming for metaphorical clouds, as the club is in dire need of an injection of cash large enough to match my enthusiasm! We are a small club, and most of the members are retired gentlemen of limited means. All with big hearts though, and determination to keep the club running and see the smiles on the faces of new members.

We have additional expense this year, to upgrade some radios, pay a bit more rent (on the plus side, the extra land should mean better flying throughout the year) and start saving up for the day when we have to replace our training glider. Basically we need to increase our income by about 20% a year, but we can’t do that by taking on hundreds of new members as they wouldn’t get the time and attention they need and their training would suffer. So, I am spearheading a mix of projects to raise our profile and generate a little extra revenue – some involving flying, others not.

My plans for the year:

  • repeat High Flying Girls, but make it 4 times the size! Find up to 80 girls and women to take on the challenge of flying without an engine!
  • earn money from your shopping
    • Buy from Amazon via our links or take out 30-day free trials of Prime or Audible and we get a reward even if you never pay beyond the trial period. We get a % of whatever you buy without you paying a penny extra.
    • Register with easyfundraising.org.uk and shop online to support LGC – we get donations if you buy anything from over 3000 shops eg insurance, groceries, airport parking, a new mobile phone. Follow the link above and we get £1 when you make your first qualifying purchase, plus a small % or fixed payment depending on the particular offer.
  • get more likes on our Facebook page (under 30 at time of posting – 100 is the first target!)
  • run a crowdfunding campaign so that we can offer free flying to participants of High Flying Girls – more details in due course.

I aim to raise £5000 in 2017, and will keep you posted on progress!
